BA in Communication - Degree Requirements
Students who wish to apply for a major in Communication must contact the undergraduate advisor, com-advisor
To apply to the Communication Major you must have:
* completed a minimum of 45 credit hours;
* completed COM 101;
* completed two additional specified Communication courses (Choose from COM 217, COM 225, COM 240);
* wth a 2.5 or better average in the above-mentioned COM courses;
* completed an approved statistics course with a C or better;
* CSE 111 or CSE 113;
* completed the University's writing skills requirement;
* have a 2.5 COM GPA;
* have maintained a 2.0 overall UB GPA.

A. Required Courses (15 credits)
COM 101 Principles of Communication
COM 217 Communication in Organizations
COM 225 Interpersonal Communication
COM 240 Survey of Mass Communication
COM 337 Communication Theory
B. Communication Electives (24 credits)
Eight (8) additional communication courses. No more than three of these eight courses may be taken from approved cross-listed courses offered in other social science departments. No more than 6 hours of the 39 credit hours required for graduation may be counted from informal courses (i.e., COM 496 Internship and COM 499 Independent Study).
JOINT MAJOR: All of the required COM courses, 5 COM Electives (15 hours), and all out-of-Department required courses listed below.

C. One writing course beyond ENG 101 and ENG 201 (3 credits each):
COM 300 Written Communication
COM 375 / ENG 202 Technical Writing
COM 398 / ENG 398 / ENG 399 Journalism
COM 449 Promotional Writing (or any course offered by the Department of English, which emphasizes TECHNICAL and/or NON-FICTION WRITING - ENG 395-399)
Each of these courses may be used to fulfill COM requirements OR fulfill the writing requirement, but one course may not be used to fulfill both requirements. (Note: Only one ENG class can be used and only toward the COM writing requirement)
D. One introductory or higher level statistics course (3-4 credits):

And one of the following:

H. One Linguistics course or PSY 348 (3 credits):
One 100 or 200 level course or PSY 348 or COM 125 Introduction to the Internet. COM 125 can count as either the Linguistics course or a COM elective, but not both.
